Belgium confirms the delivery of 30 F-16s to Ukraine and reaffirms its global and lasting support for the Ukrainian people.

Belgium has taken another major step in supporting Ukraine by officially announcing the delivery of 30 F-16s to bolster the country's air defence. The first delivery is scheduled for late 2024. This decision testifies to Belgium's unwavering support for Ukrainian sovereignty and its desire to contribute to the security of the European continent. At the same time, a comprehensive cooperation agreement has been signed between the two countries, confirming Belgium's long-term commitment in the fields of military, diplomatic, humanitarian and reconstruction aid.

Broader support for Ukraine

In addition to military support, Belgium has committed to a comprehensive cooperation with Ukraine. A 10-year agreement has been signed. This partnership covers military, diplomatic, humanitarian and reconstruction aspects. The emphasis is on support for the Ukrainian armed forces, the reconstruction of infrastructure essential to the Ukrainian population and economic development, and the fight against impunity.

Since the start of the conflict, Foreign Affairs has channelled over €498.91 million in military, humanitarian, reconstruction, and human rights aid to the Ukrainian people. These efforts demonstrate Belgium's willingness to go beyond military support to help protect and support civilians affected by the conflict. In the long term, Belgium is committed to the reconstruction of Ukraine through a €150 million programme over 4 years, which will be implemented by the Belgian development agency ENABEL. The emphasis will be on health and social protection, education, and employment. A major effort will also be devoted to energy efficiency and green energy.

With the signing of this agreement and the delivery of the F-16s, Belgium is strengthening its position as a strategic partner of Ukraine in its fight for regional security and stability.
